    =  5 cm an UNIQUE NOVEL =
An unique Indonesian novel, “5 cm” is the first novel by Donny Dhirghantoro. This novel published in 2005 by PT.GRASINDO. With thickness about 381 pages, this unique book tell us about friendship and nasionalism.
The story started  with the inform about each characters. The main characters of this novel are Genta, Riana, Zafran, Arial, and Ian. They are bestfriends. These characters had been bestfriends about 7 years. And one day, they got boring. So they decided that they have to separate about 3 months. The Idea about nasionalism inserted by the writer at the climax of the story when they back together after 3 months. The first meet after separate, they decide to hiking ‘Mahameru’ and celebrate the Independence’s Day at the top of the mount.
Actually I know that many people confused and repeatedly ask, why it called “5 cm”. The answer is simple enough, 5 cm is a distance we have to put our dreams in front of our eyes. So that, we always see it and be determined to chase it. That is a big value of the story.
This novel will make you get many insight, because every phases of the plot in the story inserted by wise advice which make you enjoy to read it. The language which used by the writer very simple and understanding. Because the writer use daily language especially teenage language.
About the theme, most of us have understood that nasionalism was a crucial thing. But, this book make me so proud about this country, Indonesian. Because, the idea about nasionalism inserted by the writer perfectly in phases at the climax of the story. So, we can understand easily.
Story book like novel is a simple thing. But, the good theme, the quality of the characters, the dramatical plot, the choosen languege, the presentation, and the moral value of the story make the “5 cm” novel be a unique thing to read.
